Board Games Design Workshop

You are an enthusiast for board games and have been a frequent patron of game cafes such as Settlers Cafe. Itching to own a unique, one-of-a-kind innovative and creative game designed by you. If you fit into these descriptions, the
4-part Games Design Workshop is catered just for you.

Participants will be exposed to the game mechanics process through hands-on-experiences of playing the games which is essential in the creation of games. Participants will also gain from the impartation of skills by the facilitators which include identifying innovative solutions to guide effective actions and presentation skills.

As a student in Bear Fruit Academy, you do not have to prepare much for it industriously, all we require from you is:

* A comittment to ALL 4 workshops
* A familiarity with the Serangoon area
* A keen interest in board games
* An abilility to be a team player

The winning game will be created into a professional protype, showcased in a Public Library and even stand an opportunity to be produced commercially.

The class is limited to 30 spaces. You would be put into groups of 5 to create and design your very own boardgame. All hyped up for the experience of a lifetime?

Session 1
Ang Mo Kio Public Library
Programme Zone, Saturday, 27 November 2010, 11am – 1pm

– Participants will discuss what games are and share their experiences in playing games.
– Participants will learn how to categorize games through the exposure to a variety of games.
– Participants will learn the variety of basic game mechanics and identify what makes different games fun.

Session 2
Ang Mo Kio Public Library
Programme Zone, Saturday, 4 December 2010, 11am – 1pm

– Participants will be guided through an analysis of choices given in a game and its role.
– Participants will begin to appreciate why certain elements are in a game and what makes the game good.
– Participants will delve deeper into analysing the rules in a game and experiment with modifying rules to appreciate their impact on a game.

Session 3
Ang Mo Kio Public Library
Programme Zone, Saturday, 11 December 2010, 11am – 1pm

– Participants will create and critique basic games.
– Participants will brainstorm for their very own game and have their own game fully planned out, being guided by the facilitators.
– Participants will begin construction and testing on their very own games.
– Participants will create a complete and playable game that is ready for testing and revision.

Session 4
Ang Mo Kio Public Library
Programme Zone, Saturday, 18 December 2010, 11am – 1pm

– Participants will finalise their games and present it to the panel of judges.
